Cunard’s Queen Mary 2

by Rebecca Espinosa

The Queen Mary 2

RMS Queen Mary 2 (QM2), is a British trans-Atlantic ocean liner. She is the flagship of Cunard Line and is the only ocean liner in the world that is still in service. The ship was officially named Queen Mary 2 after the first RMS Queen Mary of 1936 now docked in Long Beach, California. The Queen Mary 2 is the only trans-Atlantic ocean liner in regular service between Southampton, England and New York City, United States just as they would have done in yesteryear.

One of the ship’s greatest appeals is the luxury offered onboard, which is felt throughout the ship and highlighted by the three formal nights that take place during every trans-Atlantic Crossing. You’ll discover remarkable craftsmanship in the elegant staterooms and suites. (See the Queen Mary deck plans and rooms by clicking here.) Savoring the Queen Mary 2’s many sumptuous restaurants and bars is always a pleasure to look forward to. Some say that the liner’s pièce de résistance is the full-scale planetarium, where you gaze above learning about the mysteries of the universe: others say it is the library, the largest to grace the seas.

Whether you’re in the mood for complete relaxation or something more active, you can find it aboard the QM2. Immerse yourself in our vintage style entertainment and gatherings, be indulged in the on-board spa, or simply relax with a book in the on deck.

The Queen’s Room is where most of our private parties and performances take place. This is also where you’ll find the famous white gloved service of the daily Afternoon Tea.

Welcome to a true icon.

What’s the difference between an ocean liner and a cruise ship?

Ocean liners are designed to undertake a line voyage across a large expanse of open ocean. They are much more expensive to build because they are designed for open ocean water which cruise ships are not. As the only ocean liner at sea, the QM2 provides a much more stable voyage than you would find with any “repositioning” of a cruise ship. She really is one of a kind!
